Owner and Registered Psychologist for Serenity Now Wellness Centre
I would like to welcome you to Serenity Now Wellness Centre and hope to help you get to know me better and how we can work together so you can start to live a life of wholeness and wellness. I started Serenity Now Wellness both out of a desire to be my own boss as well as to really educate and promote the use of mind-body techniques in counselling because of the phenomenal changes and successes I have witnessed both within my own life and the lives of my clients. My view of human nature is based on the premise that every behaviour we engage in has a functional purpose, though it may not always feel that way. I believe that humans are hard-wired to protect themselves and have created elaborate defence mechanisms to protect themselves. Many times, people seek out counselling because they are engaging in a behaviour that does not feel functional. These seemingly non-functional behaviours may be creating stress or discomfort in present time but probably had a very functional purpose at one time. They were probably behaviours set up to help defend you from real or perceived threats. So, I hope to help you in your journey to understanding the behaviours you engage in that may not feel functional anymore and help you to understand how that pattern may have been set up from a very functional perspective, even if it does not feel that way. I want you to look at yourself and all habits with love and without judgement. I started my career in psychology at the University of Calgary. I completed a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and started to work with children with learning disabilities. I decided to continue my education and proceeded with a Masters in Counselling Psychology. I attended Campus Alberta, which was a collaborative program where I received a degree from the University of Calgary, the University of Lethbridge, and Athabasca University.
