Jan Henry has been in Private Practice for over 30 years. She just recently moved to Calgary from Prince Edward Island to be closer to her three children. She holds a Masters in Clinical Social Work from Wilfrid Laurier University, and both a Bachelor of Social Work and a Bachelor of Arts from McMaster University. Jan draws from her years of experience using a number of the following: Brief Solution Focused Therapy, Interpersonal Psychotherapy, Cognitive Behavioural, Choice Theory, Emotion Focused Therapy, Family Systems Therapy, Play Therapy, Narrative and Feminist Therapy.
Jan focuses on a strong relationship between the therapist and the client as a holding environment for communication and understanding as the basis for hope and help.
Jan has a background working with children, adolescents, and their families. She also works with trauma survivors, veterans and their families, couples experiencing difficulties in their relationship, and with a variety of clients who have mental health issues including but not limited to bipolar disorder, depression, anxiety, panic disorder, post traumatic syndrome and complicated grief.
Jan loves working with people and bearing witness to the strength and resilience of the human spirit despite trauma and adversity. She values knowing such motivated individuals who are seeking to change their lives through better understanding of themselves and others.
Jan tailors her approach to the individual client(s), using her background and experience to suit the client(s) needs. Bringing out each individual’s authentic self is an important part of this journey.
Jan Henry looks forward to seeing you soon!
