Kayla Pearen holds a Bachelor of Arts Psychology Honours Degree and a Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology Degree. She is a Registered Provisional Psychologist and has education and training in grief therapy, human development, emotional regulation, cultural diversity, trauma-informed care and professional ethics. Kayla works primarily from the frameworks of Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Narrative Therapy and Solution-Focused Therapy. Outside of work, Kayla loves swimming, hiking, camping and trying out new craft projects.
Kayla works with children, adolescents, adults, and families and is knowledgeable in the areas of grief, anxiety, depression, stress, and concerns related to interpersonal relationships, health and wellness, schoolwork, emotional regulation, and self-esteem. Kayla has experience counselling individuals and families seeking grief support after a loss. She also has experience working with individuals of the 2SLGBTQ+ community, particularly adolescents experiencing distress related to gender identity.
Kayla likes to use the metaphor of a cooking recipe to explain her view of therapy. All clients are diverse and unique, and there is no single recipe that suits everyone. Kayla values collaboration and encourages clients to play an active role in creating their therapeutic “recipe” along the way. Kayla believes that clients enter therapy with the “ingredients” needed to achieve their desired goals, and that exploring the use of these ingredients together can lead to transformation.
Kayla understands that during difficult times in life, it can feel impossible to find hope. Kayla’s warm therapeutic approach makes space for this experience. She accompanies each client along their unique journey and aims to shine light on small glimmers of hope along the way.
Kayla Pearen looks forward to seeing you soon!
